Did you know you may qualify for a reduction in your property tax bill? We’re excited to announce that the following homestead exemptions are available for qualified homeowners:
- 7% general homestead exemption: If you’re a homeowner who claims your house as your primary residence, this exemption can reduce the appraised value that’s used in the calculation of your property tax bill by 7%, resulting in savings for you!
- $50,000 homestead exemption for those who are disabled or sixty-five years of age or older: If you’re a homeowner who claims your house as your primary residence AND you are either disabled or 65 years or older, this exemption can reduce the appraised value that’s used in the calculation of your property tax bill by $50,000, resulting in more savings for you!
To qualify for the exemptions, residents must use their property as their primary residence and must have owned the property on or before January 1 of the tax year. To apply for one or more exemption, fill out the form on the Harris Central Appraisal District’s website at: https://hcad.seamlessdocs.com/f/Form11_13. Contact Harris Central Appraisal District at 713-957-7800 if you have any questions about the application process.
The homestead exemptions are just one of the many ways that MUD 278 is working to support our community. We encourage all eligible residents to take advantage of this opportunity.
